Honourable colleague, MPs from AIPA Member Parliaments,
The Secretary-General of AIPA, Distinguished Delegates,
Good afternoon and peace be upon us…
Thank you for the opportunity…
Kindly allow me to begin with a well wishes to all of us. I hope the pandemic will soon be over and we could meet in person to enable us to discuss matters without the limitation of screen and internet connection.
My name is Ahmad Hafisz Tohir, Vice Chairperson of the Committee for Inter Parliamentary Cooperation and also Member of the House Commission on Banking and Financial Affairs. I am from the National Mandate Party representing South Sumatera. In this Committee Meeting, I am accompanied by my colleague Hon. Mr. I Gusti Agung Rai Wirajaya from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle and he is also Member of the same House Commission with me which dealing with Banking and Financial Affair.

We appreciate the resolutions proposed by the host country, Brunei Darussalam, as it touches upon matters that is of relevance to us. Amid the sluggish growth, digital economy continues to become a strong growth engine during pandemic and the trend is expected to continue post-pandemic.
It has been projected that ASEAN digital integration has the potential to generate a US $1 Trillion uplift in regional GDP by 2025, therefore, accelerating digital integration is essential. It is not only for post-pandemic survival but also to build a strong and resilient Economic Community with increased efficiency, higher productivity and improved value-chains connectivity.
Thank you also to our colleague from Thailand to bring up the issue of tourism. It is one of the sectors that have been hit hardest by this pandemic. My colleague here, Mr. I Gusti Agung Rai Wirajaya, constituency is in Bali and I am sure he will agree that pandemic has devastating impact on places with heavy economic reliance on tourism.
On the last year AIPA GA, similar issue has been proposed by Indonesia, however, due to decision to only have one single resolution in each Committee, it has to be merged. We are ecstatic that this year we put the issue of tourism again on the agenda.

I would like to conclude by reiterating our strong support to the draft resolutions. We will propose several amendments to enrich the draft resolutions during the course of this Committee Meeting.
Thank you.
Ir. Achmad Hafisz Tohir MBA
